The Bauchi State Police Command on Tuesday said that it hindered a planned attack on some parts of the state with the arrest of two prime suspects.
Ahmed Mohammad Wakil, the Public Relation Officer of the police command, (PPRO) confirmed the arrest in a press statement made available to newsmen in Bauchi,
According to him, the police acted on actionable intelligence and put in place strategies that are potent enough to deal with the emerging trends of crime and criminality in the state.
Speaking further, he said acting on credible intelligence, the operatives attached to the Area Command in Bauchi on May 5 2023, arrested two suspects, Muktar Salisu and Absulazeez Hashimu, both residents of the state.
He added that the suspects were arrested in possession of one cutter rod and two sharp machetes hidden in an uncompleted building situated at the Federal Low-Cost area of the state capital, noting that the suspects confessed that they were planning to launch an operation in an uncertain place within the state.
Wakil, a Superintendent of Police (SP) stated that the suspects further confessed that they had invited their co-conspirators from different areas within and outside the state with a view to launching heavy attacks on innocent citizens in the state.
New Telegraph reports the development, police operatives on surveillance patrol on May 10, 2023, arrested a teenager and two others, who confessed to being armed robbers terrorising the Bauchi metropolis.
“On 10/05/2023 at about 2029hrs police operatives attached to Area Command Metro while on surveillance patrol arrested the undermentioned suspects: Aliyu Yakubu m aged 20yrs, Basiru Babangida m aged 21yrs and Khalifa Abdullahi m aged 18yrs.
“During interrogation, the suspects voluntarily confessed to being armed robbers (Yan Tokara) who are terrorising the residents of the Bauchi metropolis.
“However, the suspects opened up clearly and stated that they criminally conspired among themselves, armed with dangerous weapons and entered people’s houses breaking the door and threatening the occupants to bring out their phones or else they face the consequences,” SP Wakil stated.
The police image maker added that an investigation is ongoing to arrest their co-conspirators, after which the suspects will be charged in court for prosecution.
However, the command warned thugs in the state, also known as Sara-Suka, planning to cause any form of violence or disturbance of public peace to have a rethink or desist as it is fully prepared and battle ready to deal with them decisively in order to ensure safety and security in the state.
