The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan has described the Local Government elections conducted on Wednesday in 17 LG of the state as the most transparent, credible, free and fair.
Rt. Hon. Dewan while Speaking with Journalists in Jos on the outcome of the just concluded LG Elections on Friday appreciated Plateau citizens for conducting themselves peacefully during and after the elections.
He said, “I want to commend the PLASIEC, that is the State Independent Electoral Commission, for conducting one of the most transparent elections so far, as we have witnessed in the state”.
He noted that even though himself and others were from the opposition parties and have the tenancy of criticising the process, said, “To be fair to PLASIEC who is the electoral umpire and Government, I can say the election was free and fair, my party candidates won in some Local Government”.
According to him, PLASIEC did very well for conducting one of the most credible and transparent elections ever witnessed in the state since 2008.
The Lawmaker tasks the newly elected Local Government Council Chairmen to collaborate and key into the development agenda of Governor Caleb Mutfwang to help move Plateau State forward.
“So, all I want to tell the newly elected Council Chairmen and Councillors is that, we have a Governor who within the shortest period of time, to be fair to him, has shown courage, determination and zeal that he is ready to work for Plateau State.
“Local government chairmen, being the government at the grassroots, have a unique opportunity to build the image and complement the governor’s efforts in achieving his agendas.
“My message to them is to serve as ambassadors of the governor, replicating his initiatives in their respective local governments. By doing so, citizens will directly benefit from the positive changes at the grassroots level.”
