Chris Nkwonta, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ukwa East/West of Abia State, has officially withdrawn his membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and declared his allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Nkwonta’s defection was confirmed during a plenary session on Wednesday in Abuja, as announced by the Speaker of the House of Representaives, Tajudeen Abbas.

Following the announcement, Deputy Minority Leader Aliyu Madaki referenced a constitutional provision and urged the Speaker to declare Nkwonta’s seat vacant due to his defection.
However, Speaker Abbas responded, acknowledging the existence of a faction within the PDP, which could justify the lawmaker’s move.
