PDP Chieftain Calls For Investigation Into El-Rufai’s Tenure

A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader in Kaduna State, Isa Rabiu, has called on former Governor Nasir El-Rufai to allow a thorough investigation into his eight years in office and refrain from attempts to declare himself innocent prematurely.

Rabiu’s comment follows allegations by the Kaduna State House of Assembly accusing El-Rufai’s administration of misappropriating over N423 billion during his tenure.

While the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and his allies have denied the claims, attributing them to political witch-hunts, Rabiu insists that an impartial investigation is necessary.

Speaking with journalists, Rabiu criticized El-Rufai’s defence of his time as governor, particularly his assertion that he joined politics to serve the people rather than enrich himself.

New Telegraph had earlier reported that El-Rufai appeared on a Hausa program on Freedom Radio in Kaduna, where he refuted the allegations of financial mismanagement, emphasizing that he had been financially secure before entering politics and had no need to embezzle public funds.

“He expressed frustration over the accusations, stating there was no specific evidence tied to the claims against him.

However, Rabiu countered these claims, reminding the public that El-Rufai had previously orchestrated a petition against former Governor Ahmed Makarfi, leading to an investigation into Makarfi’s administration.

“Rabiu questioned El-Rufai’s credibility, accusing him of lacking the discipline to govern effectively, and referencing his previous actions during the administration of late President Umaru Yar’Adua.

Rabiu urged the Kaduna State government, along with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), to conduct a full investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds under El-Rufai’s administration, calling for justice and restitution where necessary.
