The godfather, Adam Oshiomhole and his godson, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State are currently engaged in a battle of supremacy over the September governorship election in the state.
Recall that in 2020, Obaseki had outwitted Oshiomhole, who was the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC), when he defected to the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and won re-election.
That was after Oshiomhole used his powers to disqualify Obaseki from the APC platform.
Now, Oshiomhole, who lost his Chairmanship position of the APC soon after that wants to ensure that he exacts his pound of flesh from Obaseki, who hit him when he was most vulnerable.
Sunday Telegraph gathered that now Senator Oshiomhole, is working hard to pay Obaseki back by taking the state back to the APC.
It was learnt that part of the grand scheme is the return of the impeached deputy governor, Phillip Shaibu, who was reinstated by the Court to Oshiomhole.
Obaseki is also said to be reaching out to the PDP constituency, especially some of the governors. They are also going beyond party structure to see what they can do with other smaller parties in terms of building a coalition against the All Progressives Congress (APC).
One of the strategies is to ensure that the PDP wants to return to power starting from Edo State. That is what the PDP stalwarts are talking about and they are mobilising all for the election.
For the APC, it is an opportunity for Oshiomhole to come back to reckoning and to show that he is the leader of the party in Edo State and Obaseki was from APC before and he left for the PDP due to the disagreement between them.
Oshiomhole believes that he is closer to the loop of power now than before.
The PDP also believes that it is a dress rehearsal for the coming election in 2027. Both parties are looking at it that way.
