…Says PDP Will Bounce Back To Power
The immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom yesterday declared that he is not interested in contesting for any elective office during the 2027 general elections.
Chief Ortom however expressed optimism that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming elections in the country.
Chief Ortom spoke when elders of the party also known as the G-14 from the 14 Tiv speaking local government areas of the state led by Elder Laha Dzever, paid him a courtesy visit at his Makurdi residence in Makurdi.
He said his family and businesses suffered huge neglect while serving as governor from 2015 to 2023, stressing that for now he is determined to sit back and look after them.
According to him, he lost his 2023 senatorial bid because he failed to consult God, adding that, the courts of competent jurisdiction have dismissed cases filed against the ward and local government congresses.
He said at a meeting with Senator Abba Moro and Gabriel Suswam, they agreed on free and fair zoning by stakeholders, adding that Moro and him have worked successfully except that of Suswam which is under protest.
Earlier, the leader of G-14,
Dr. Laha Dzever, said the group was formed by elders to prevent the party from collapsing in the state and not by former governor Suswam.
Dzever, who said former Ortom remains the leader of the PDP in Benue State, alleged that some forces within the party were in connivance with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to destabilise the party ahead of 2027.
He maintained that Ortom had worked hard to defend the interest of the state and beyond through the anti-open grazing law, and assured that the party will be repositioned ahead of the 2027 general election.
