The wife of human rights activist, Mr Femi Falana SAN, Funmi, daughter of late legal icon, Justice Akinola Aguda, and prominent citizens of the country are to be honoured by the Isikan community in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The Chairman of the planning committee for the 2024 Isinkan Day Celebration, Hon. Olumuyiwa Akintola Aguda, who is also the Olu of Kajola-Isinkan disclosed this at the palace of Iralepo of Isikan while briefing newsmen on the preparedness of the community for the weeklong event which has commenced on the 9th of July, 2024.
Expected at the event are Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Emir of Bade in Yobe State, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Suleiman, Oba Adedokun Abolarin, the Orangun of Oke Ila, Oba Adekunle Adeagbo, the Oore of Otun Ekiti and many other eminent Nigerians.
The Committee Chairman said Isinkan Day 2024 would be used to showcase the rich culture and traditions of the Isinkan people and to raise funds for developmental projects conceived by His Ancestral Majesty, Oba Oluwagbemiga Ojo.
The weeklong event would among other things feature the conferment of awards of excellence on some eminent Nigerians including the pioneer President of the Ondo State Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Folashade Aguda-Taiwo, the first female SAN from Ondo State, Funmi Falana SAN, two top military officers, a DSS chieftain and a retired director from the Federal Ministry of Power.
Some of the dignitaries expected are Dr Wale Babalakin CFR SAN, and Mr. Yinka Akande (MD Dangote Industries Free Zone Development Company).
Aguda said, “Our heroes will also be recognized posthumously, one of them is the father of former PDP governorship candidate, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede SAN”.
He said that Isinkan has a very rich and ancient history with the present Iralepo being the 94th monarch to sit on this exalted stool.
Line up of programs kicked off on the 9th of July, 2024 with a skills acquisition and empowerment programme at Iralepo’s Palace Isinkan and it is to run till Friday 12th of July with free training on Solar Panel Assembly, Laptops & Mobile Phone repairs, Website design & online marketing, Cinematography and Photography.
Other highlights included Liberation Day which would coincide with the day Oba Ojo got staff of office from the state government after a protracted battle over the recognition of Iralepo’s stool.
The climax of the 2024 Isinkan Day celebration will be on July 20 with N5 billion naira fundraising and unveiling of the Isinkan Anthem and special Isinkan songs.
