Erstwhile National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chekwas Okorie, yesterday accused Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, of plotting to destroy the party.
Speaking to reporters in Abuja, Okorie appealed to President Bola Tinubu to prevail on Soludo to refrain from actions capable of destroying the party. According to him, the ex Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor is free to leave the party he joined voluntarily “without attempting to destroy a house he did not build”.
Okorie said by not recognising Edozie Njoku as APGA National Chairman, Soludo wants to trigger a leadership crisis in the party.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently recognised Njoku as the APGA National Chairman after a long legal battle with Victor Oye and others.
Okorie asked Njoku and APGA’s National Working Committee to petition Tinubu, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), the National Judicial Council, the National Security Adviser, and the major embassies about the “threat to democracy and the rule of law in Nigeria by a single inordinately ambitious man called Prof. Soludo”.
He added: “APGA has had enough leadership crises in 20 of its 22 years of existence; enough crises to last it for centuries. “All we want now is a peaceful environment to re-launch APGA as a national political party that will take its rightful place in Nigeria’s democratic space.
“It is APGA that provided Governor Peter Obi the platform, the opportunity and the exposure to launch himself as a two-term governor of Anambra State and now a key player in national politics.
“This party provided the platform for former Governor Rochas Okorocha to realise his long-elusive aspiration to become Imo State governor. “Ex-Governor Willie Obiano is another beneficiary and product of APGA.
“The late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu used the platform of APGA to re-launch himself to relevance in Nigeria’s political space.
“Soludo had made two previous attempts to be governor of Anambra State on the platform of other political parties. He was finally able to achieve his ambition on the platform of APGA.”
