Ogun Police Recover Body Of Missing Septuagenarian

Ogun State Police Command on Wednesday announced the recovery of the corpse of 76-year-old Sikiru Olatunji, who was declared missing some days ago, in a forest in the Yewa North Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, who disclosed this in a statement said that the body was found after an extensive search by local security operatives and the police.

According to Odutola, Olatunji’s body was found lifeless with no injuries thereby creating suspense about the circumstances behind his death.

She added that the family of the deceased requested his body for burial while seeking public assistance to unravel the circumstances behind the incident.

She said, “His corpse was found about one and a half kilometres from Wasinmi Abule Maria via Balogun Village in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

“According to police reports, the deceased was found lying face-up with his cutlass by his side. No visible signs of violence were observed on his body, leaving the cause of his death unclear.

“The discovery was made known following an extensive bush-clearing operation and a coordinated search effort by police officers from Imasayi Division, assisted by Amotekun operatives, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, the Baale, and local hunters.

“Following the recovery, the deceased’s family requested and was granted custody of the corpse for burial.

“However, the police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding his death and are soliciting useful information from the public to aid their inquiry.

“The Ogun State Police Command urges anyone with relevant details to come forward and assist in ensuring a thorough investigation,” Odutola concluded.
