Ogun Immigration Deports 22 Illegal Immigrants

The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has repatriated 22 illegal immigrants from Benin Republic for causing disturbances across various Local Government Areas.

The State Comptroller, Grace Adeoye disclosed this during her visit to the Ogun State House of Assembly in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Monday.

Comptroller Adeoye stressed the need for collaboration with the state government to strengthen efforts in combating illegal immigration.

She stated that the recent deportations were part of a broader strategy by the command to address similar issues, with a focus on maintaining law and order within the state.

However, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, pledged continued support for the Immigration Service, recognizing its vital role in ensuring peace and security, particularly in the state’s border regions.

He also lauded the recent reforms in the issuance of Nigerian passports, noting that the improvements have significantly enhanced service delivery.

Elemide stated, “The Ogun State House of Assembly remains committed to working closely with the Immigration Service to improve its operations, particularly in securing our borders and addressing illegal immigration.”

Other Assembly members, including Wahab Haruna, Fola Salami, and Majority Leader Yusuf Sheriff, praised the command’s efforts and called for more proactive measures to curb illegal activities by foreigners, emphasizing the need to enhance security in border communities.
