The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Abiodun Alamutu, has appealed to the Inspector General, Kayode Egbetokun, to checkmate transfers of officers from the command to other formations.
Alamutu disclosed that, between March 2023 and March 2024, the personnel of the command had slumped from 6,010 to 5,523.
The police boss lamented that the growing transfer, which majorly affected Inspectors, rank and file, has depleted the personnel strength and impacted negatively the fight against insecurity in the state.
Alamutu stated this when Egbetokun visited the command’s headquarters at Eleweran, Abeokuta, during his three-day visit to the state.
He noted that the challenge of officers seeking transfer has been compounding the crisis of inadequate logistics and manpower.
Alamutu said “In consonance with the policy of the IGP on visibility and effective policing coupled with the strategic location of Ogun State, being the closest to the economic hub of the nation, I wish to inform the IGP that the state of transfers from the command to other formations has tremendously depleted the nominal strength of this command to the extent that between March 2023 to March 2024, the nominal roll of personnel in Ogun State has dropped from 6,010 personnel to 5,523 personnel.
“This particularly affected the Inspectors, rank and file who are the nucleus of the workforce, thereby impacting negatively on the objectives of the extant policy to provide effective security of lives and property.
“I hereby make a gentle plea that this development be graciously looked into and checkmated by the IGP.”
He, however, said there is a “drastic reduction in criminal activities” in the state due to a concerted effort of the officers and men of the command.
