The Workers at the Ogun State House of Assembly have demanded the full implementation of the Consolidated Legislative Salary Scale (CONLESS).
The workers under the aegis of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Ogun State branch said only the full implementation of the salary scale would place them at par with their contemporaries in other states.
The Legislative workers had in May shut down the Assembly complex during a strike action over the non-implementation of their salary scale.
The workers also demanded full compliance with the provisions of the Ogun State House of Assembly Service Commission Law, 2018 and Statutory Office (State Emolument) Amendment 2018.
But, the workers later called off their strike following the intervention from the Speaker of the House, Hon. Olakunle Oluomo.
The Legislative staff in a letter addressed to Governor Dapo Abiodun lamented that the government only approved “partial implementation” of the Consolidated Legislative Salary Scale (CONLESS) despite calling off their strike.
A copy of the letter which was jointly signed by the chairman of PASAN, Ojediran Ayotunde and the secretary, Adedigba David was made available to journalists in Abeokuta on Saturday.
The workers alleged that the Clerk/Head of Legislative Service, the Deputy Clerk and the Executive Secretary Assembly Service Commission “who are all our members were not only denied their due salaries, in consonance with Ogun State Assembly Service Commission Law, 2018 section 10 (2)13 and 14 but other allowances attached to their office as well were equally denied.”
“Sir, the appropriate remuneration of the Clerk, Deputy Clerk, and the Executive Secretary of the House of Assembly Service Commission, deserves a due recognition of your esteemed Office.
“As top Legislative Officers, their present status reflects the future aspirations of the entire workforce.
“Consequently, by addressing this demand, the state government will not only demonstrate its strong commitment to fairness and equity but also strengthen the morale and motivation of the management team, which is crucial for the overall success of the legislative institution”, workers said.
