Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged political leaders to be proactive regarding national security and the unity of the country.
The former military leader, who decried the rising insecurity in many parts of Nigeria, said: “Without a good security and free environment, no nation can thrive or develop to make meaningful progress.”
He said these yesterday when he paid homage to the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu SuleimanAdamu. Obasanjo said leaders must work hard and in collaboration with the community to end activities of criminal and other social verses.
He said: “The criminals are within us we must inform the authorities of concern, and even if we thought they are coming from outside the country, they have the support of our people who work for them to achieve their weakened agenda.
“Our leaders must work in synergy with all stakeholders to ensure the end of banditry, kidnapping and even Boko Haram for us to have peace and progress in the land.”
