The traditional ruler of Ikate-Elegushi in Eti-Osa, Lagos State, Oba Dr. Saheed Elegushi, has donated three tennis courts to the Lagos State University, Ojo.
The donation of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) standard tennis courts was part of the facilities used for the recently concluded Federal of African University Sports (FASU) games, hosted by LASU and the University of Lagos, as a demonstration of the traditional ruler’s support of sports and education.
Speaking during the inspection of the facility on the side lines of the closing ceremony of FASU games at LASU, Oba Elegushi stated: “Our intervention is to ensure we promote sports, even at the university level.
“If we want the students to turn away from crime and criminality, we should provide the facilities they need to recreate and spend time outside their academic schedule.”
Oba Elegushi promised to institute an annual tennis competition at the university, replicating a similar competition in his honour at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club.
