NYG: Tinubu, Oborevwori Decry Nigeria’s Poor Performance At Olympics

President Bola Tinubu and the Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori have decried the poor outing of Nigeria’s delegates to the just concluded Olympics in Parts.

The President was however, optimistic that the ongoing 8th edition of the National Youth Games (NYG), holding in Asaba would enhance sports development via the deft strategy of catch-them-young. Oborevwori expressed disappointment that Nigeria’s performance drastically declined.

The President, who was represented by the Minister of Sports Development, Sen John Enoh, in Asaba yesterday during the opening ceremony, hailed the governor for hosting the 2024 edition despite the economic quagmire in the country.

He said: “The administration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is dedicated to development of sports in Nigeria. This athletic competition therefore is to advance this course.

I agree that our performance was on the decline as the Governor had observed. But we must continue to nurture these games in our youths to discover hidden talents and strengthen international relations.”

He acknowledged the noticeable improvements that had been effected on the sporting facilities on the Late Stephen Keshi Stadium. The Governor said close to 6,000 athletes have arrived the state and are in high spirits to win medals.
