The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Yobe State Command, has arrested six suspects for allegedly vandalizing transformers and electrical substations in Damaturu.
Mr Adamu Zakari, State Commandant of the NSCDC, who disclosed this while parading the suspects on Wednesday said a resident of Waziri Ibrahim Estate raised an alarm, prompting the arrest of the offenders.
“On April 14, at about 6:00 a.m., NSCDC operatives arrested 18-year-old Adamu Abdullahi and 19-year-old Isa Umar for allegedly vandalising armoured cables behind the Yobe State Secretariat Complex in Damaturu,” Zakari said.
According to the commandant, the vandalised armoured cable retrieved from the accused is around 20 metres of 50mm pure copper single-core cable worth approximately N1.2 million.
He stated that further investigation had linked three other suspects to the cable vandalism and theft.

Zakari also disclosed that the suspects confessed to the crime and are cooperating with the investigating team.
The accused readily admitted to vandalising multiple transformers in Damaturu.
Zakari stated that on April 6, inhabitants of Nayi Nawa Tsallake, also in Damaturu, seized and surrendered Umar Mustapha, 34, for allegedly vandalizing a power substation.
According to him, the suspects were found in possession of a ladder, a safety helmet, pliers, a pair of safety hand gloves, a safety waist belt with a lanyard, a safety booth, and phoney identity cards, among other items.
However, investigations indicated that some of the suspects were former ad hoc employees of the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) who had been laid off.
The commandant stated that after the investigations were completed, the accused would be charged in court.
