As Nigeria moves to implement the National Single Window (NSW) project, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has sought the support and technical synergy of the global shipping community.
The Managing Director of NPA, Dr Abubakar Dantsoho solicited the support at the ongoing World Ports Conference 2024 in Hamburg, Germany.
Dantsoho explained that the renewed vigour with which Nigeria was accelerating the implementation of National Single Window project would in fundamental terms deepen port efficiencies.
According to him, it would eliminate human interface that hitherto undermine in-country trade facilitation efforts, saying that it requires intensified international technical support to meet and indeed exceed global expectations.
He added: “The tremendous policy support provided by Nigeria’s Honorable Minister for Marine & Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola propelled the Nigerian Ports Authority’s finalisation of the crucial phase of the Port Community System (PCS) which is the precursor to the NSW.”
Responding, the President of the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH), Mr. Jens Meier’s called for ports to actively collaborate on knowledge sharing with the maritime community to accelerate decarbonisation.
Also, Dantsoho said: “The NPA is fully aligned and we were deliberate at ensuring that our ongoing Port Modernisation programme is guided by the imperatives of eco-friendliness.”
The 2024 IAPH World Ports Conference which is themed: “Managing Risk, Building Resilience and Unlocking Opportunities at Ports” commenced on 8th October in Hamburg, Germany, brought together leaders in the global port community to share ideas necessary to face the realities of an epoch of unprecedented upheaval and opportunity.
