The Yoruba film industry has been thrown into mourning following the tragic demise of renowned Nollywood filmmaker Shina Sanyaolu.
The president of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Bolaji Amusan confirmed the development in a brief but heartfelt message on Instagram.
Announcing his passing, he wrote, “Sleep well, Uncle Shina Sanyaolu.”
While details surrounding Sanyaolu’s cause of death and the exact date remain unclear, tributes from his peers in the entertainment industry have been pouring in.

Veteran actor Jide Kosoko took to Instagram to honour Sanyaolu’s profound influence on Nollywood, describing him as more than just a talented filmmaker, but as a man of kindness and generosity.
Kosoko shared, “Shina Sanyaolu was not just a remarkable figure; he was a beacon of kindness and warmth to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His love for the arts and unwavering support for our industry were unparalleled. Shina was always there for us, extending a helping hand and opening doors where there seemed to be none.”
Kosoko reminisced about their time in the UK in the 1980s, where Sanyaolu provided support and hospitality to fellow actors.
“For those of us who journeyed to the UK in the 80s, he made it feel like home. He welcomed us with open arms, provided us with shelter, and even took time off his busy schedule to show us around,” Kosoko added.
TAMPAN UK president Doyin Amodu also paid tribute to Sanyaolu, praising his love for the arts and his invaluable support for the industry.
“Your love for the arts and unwavering support for the industry were unmatched. Good night, my brother and director. You will be deeply missed,” Amodu said.
Shina Sanyaolu, a beloved director and producer, contributed to Nollywood through notable works such as The Honourable, Two Wives, and Omo Olosan.
