No threat to Anambra poll, says Bishop Kukah

As 18 candidates sign Peace Accord today

The Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese and member of the National Peace Committee on Election Matters Bishop Mathew Kukah has said there is no threat to the conduct of Saturday’s Anambra State governorship election urging voters to vote. But he challenged the people to take their destinies into their own hands by making the election free, fair and credible. Meanwhile, the 18 candidates for the election are expected to sign a peace accord today to ensure that there is no violence during and after the exercise.

Kukah told journalists on the sidelines of Women Development Centre Awka that anyone who did not participate in the election cannot attribute it to poor security arrangements. He said, “From what we have on the ground by the law enforcement agencies and Independent National Electoral Commission, I do not see any threat to the election.

The Inspector-General of Police has assured us that they are prepared for the election. “I encourage anyone with an INEC voter card in the state to feel free and come out for the election.” The cleric added, “We are going to sign a peace accord and all the candidates and political parties are going to be part of this peace process.”
