Following the abduction of one of its members, Prof. Ekanem Ephraim, the Cross River State Chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has begun an indefinite strike in solidarity with it kidnapped member.
New Telegraph reports that Prof. Ephraim was taken hostage on Thursday, July 13 while caring for patients in her Calabar clinic.
The indefinite strike was contained in a communiqué issued after its emergency meeting in Calabar on Sunday night.
The union ordered members “to embark on total and indefinite withdrawal of medical services effective immediately in solidarity with our member still in the hands of her abductors.
“This withdrawal of medical services involves all hospitals in Cross River State, including Federal, State, Private, Mission, and cottage hospitals.”
The state Chairman of NMA, Dr Felix Archibong, the Secretary, Dr Freeman Egbe, and other members of the executive endorsed the communique.
