NLC Ground Kano As Pubic Schools, Banks, Airport Shutdown

As the ongoing Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) nationwide strikes began on Monday, June 3, the public schools and financial institutions in Kano State have totally complied with the labour union

Our Correspondent who monitored the strike in Kano metropolitan reports that public schools and Banks were shut. Meanwhile, Private school owners in Kano shun the strike action.

A proprietress who spoke on condition of anonymity said they were not joining the strike as they stand to benefit nothing from the strike action.

According to the proprietress, “We are not joining the strike because we are private and they are not going to give us when they get the minimum wage. It is not as if they will share with us.

“Bring the children to school. If they now start disturbing us, then we will know what to do,” the proprietress said our correspondent also observed compliance at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, MAKIA shut down.

A source at the airport said domestic flights were shut down except those going on pilgrimages hundreds of passengers on domestic flights were stranded at the entrance gates.

This comes as aviation unions join the nationwide indefinite strike declared by organized labour over the new minimum wage and hike in the electricity tariff.

The aviation unions had earlier announced their readiness to join the planned indefinite labour strike scheduled to begin today.

The unions announced the decision after a meeting on Sunday.

They include the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), the Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP), and the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE).
