Nigeria vs Libya: Eagles must be more clinical in return leg, says Troost-Ekong

Super Eagles captain, Williams Troost-Ekong, has said the team must be more clinical when they face the Mediterranean Knights of Libya in the second leg of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi, Benina.

Speaking after the team secured a hard-fought 1-0 defeat of their opponent at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo on Friday, the Al-Kholood of Saudi pro-League defender, said their opponent will make it hard in Libya and his teammates must make their chances count.

“Libya will come out fighting,” the former Watford star said.

“We want to go there and seal our AFCON qualification. The crowd will be hostile there, they will make it hard for us, but we will be ready.

“Libya came to get a point, they played defensively, eight defenders at the edge of their box, and they kept us out for a long time.

“It was an ugly win and it took a lot of time before we scored, but we got the three points and that’s good for us. A win is a win and I will take this win, but we need to be more clinical (in front goal), try to convert half chances to goals.”

Nigeria currently tops their group with seven points from three games played and a win in Libya will secure their qualification for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, allowing them to concentrate on their World Cup qualifiers expected to return in November.
