Nigeria To Face South Africa In Davis Cup World Group II Playoffs

Nigeria has been drawn against Africa’s tennis powerhouse, South Africa, in the Davis Cup World Group II playoffs held from January 31 to February in Johannesburg to determine the team that qualifies for the World Group II.

Nigeria, ranked 82 in the world, qualified for the World Group II playoffs after an outstanding performance against four other countries during the Africa Group III Qualifiers held in Abuja last July.

Zimbabwe and Namibia were the other countries who qualified for the World Group II playoffs alongside Nigeria and are seeking a berth into the World Group II via the playoffs.

In a post on the Davis Cup website on Monday, October 7, we gathered that Coach Benson Ishicheli-led team will have to play against South Africa. South Africa, ranked 57 in the world, will be the home team for the competition which will be played in home and away format at venues to be decided by them.

The full draw for the World Group II playoffs conducted on Monday, 7 October at the ITF Office in London, and released on the Davis Cup website are as follows:

The World Group II playoff matches are expected to be played on the weekend of January 31 to February 1, 2025 or February 1-2, 2025 at the discretion of the home nation.
