Nigeria Needs Younger Leaders –Adefarasin

General Overseer of the Guiding Light Assembly, Pastor Wale Adefarasin, has called for more involvement of youths in leadership across the country while faulting the system of having the aged contest for leadership positions. He made the call during an online chat with the Network of African Christian Journalists (NACJOURN), recently. Adefarasin in his reaction to the reintroduction of the old anthem noted that part of its lyrics talked about the next generation and succession. He partly stated: “We have a responsibility to sustain our values, our nation; we can’t do that if we can’t inculcate our value, our vision in the people coming behind us.

“We have so many problems with our leadership today but right leadership, people who see running for leadership in their 80s and 90s, today we see younger people in other climes taking up leadership and doing a great job so passing on to our children a banner without stain is very key. “My favourite is the third verse ‘O God of all creation, Grant this our one request. Help us to build a nation where no man is oppressed, and so with peace and plenty Nigeria may be blessed.’ It is a prayer and right in my view, it’s been relevant ever since 1960. We need to build this nation.”
