Reflecting on Nigeria’s independence journey, Fubara remarked on the significance of October 1, 1960, when the nation’s first Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, raised the green-white-green flag, symbolizing Nigeria’s freedom from British colonial rule.
He acknowledged the sacrifices of past and present leaders in maintaining the country’s unity.
In response to present challenges, Fubara lamented the persistent insecurity and economic hardship, even after 64 years of independence.
“Despite these difficulties, we have reasons to celebrate. We are globally known for our resilience, cultural diversity, and resourcefulness.
“As Nigerians, we must remain grateful and continue working towards building a nation where no one is oppressed, and peace and prosperity thrive,” Fubara stated.
He urged Nigerians to remain dedicated to the vision of the nation’s founding fathers by promoting unity, peace, and justice.
Fubara emphasized the importance of collaboration between the federal government and Nigerians to address issues like corruption, nepotism, and insecurity.
On the economic front, the governor commended President Tinubu’s efforts to drive reforms.
He further urged his fellow governors to combat insecurity, banditry, and oil theft in the Niger Delta to ensure the success of these reforms.
He highlighted ongoing projects in Rivers State, including the Port Harcourt Ring Road, Trans-Kalabari Road, and the rehabilitation of schools, hospitals, and the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital.
Fubara also praised the Armed Forces, Police, and other security agencies for maintaining peace in the state and pledged continued support for their efforts.
He reassured the people of Rivers State of his unwavering commitment to improving infrastructure, education, and healthcare sectors, promising that his administration will remain focused on sustainable development.
