NFF tells Rohr to continue as Eagles coach

Super Eagles Manager Gernot Rohr will continue in his role as the Manager of the national team as the Nigeria Football Federation told the German tactician he will not be sacked again. The future of the coach has been a subject of intense speculation in recent weeks following the Super Eagles’ 1-1 draw with Cape Verde in a World Cup qualifier in Lagos last month. There were reports the German had been sacked but the federation debunk the rumour even though our correspondent reliably learnt the coach was asked to resign following the outcry that trailed the unimpressive showing of his team against Cape Verde.

Sources informed New Telegraph that the federation on two occasions met with Rohr and his representatives but the two parties could not agree on a severance package and how to offset his salary arrears and the statelmate has forced the NFF to keep him on the job as the African Cup of Nations is less than one month to go.

“The federation also sounded out a couple of coaches but because of their financial situation they can’t hire anyone now,” the source added. Our correspondent has now reliably learnt that the coach has been asked to continue and he will now lead the team to AFCON.

“Rohr may stay if his team does well in AFCON; clauses in his contract stipulate that Eagles must at least reach the final of AFCON and if he fails to achieve that the NFF would be at liberty to sack him without paying him a dime as compensation,” the source added.
