Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has asked Nigerians not to pay for electricity distribution infrastructures such as poles, transformers and cables.
It gave this directive in a statement shared together on its X yesterday. It added that consumers must not be coerced into buying poles, transformers and cables. It explained that it is the responsibility of the distribution companies (DisCos) to provide those distribution infrastructures.
NERC further directed electricity users to report any coercion or delays in providing necessary materials by the DisCo in their areas.
Also, it explained that it has established a dedicated email and phone number for reporting issues related to network investments and assured the public of prompt action upon receiving such complaints.
The statement added: “Is your distribution company expecting you to buy transformers, cables, or poles? Don’t! It is the DisCo’s obligation, not yours!” NERC stated emphatically. “Report any coercion to purchase, or delays in providing these materials to NERC for prompt action.”
