Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has called on President Bola Tinubu to temporarily enlist military contractors to eradicate Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.
Ndume’s remarks came after Boko Haram launched a fresh attack in Ngoshe, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno, where six farmers were killed and five others, including women, were abducted.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Ndume praised the Nigerian military and Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) for their bravery but noted that they are under-equipped to fully eliminate the remaining insurgents in the region.
He suggested that military contractors, equipped with advanced weaponry and expertise, could be a solution to swiftly eliminate the terrorists.

“All across the world, governments hire the services of military contractors to engage in certain places,” Ndume said.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu can consider this as a short-term measure. These contractors will work with our military and Civilian JTF, who understand the terrain.”
Ndume further suggested that these contractors could also help combat banditry in the North West.
He also proposed that the federal government should recruit more youths into the military, raising the force to at least one million personnel, while contractors handle the immediate security threats.
The suggestion comes amid ongoing violence in northern Nigeria, with both Boko Haram insurgents and bandits continuing to pose significant security challenges.
