NBA, BCPG Tackles Building Collapse In Nigeria, Lagos

The Ikeja branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), alongside the Ikeja cell of the Building Collapse Prevention Guild, has stressed the need to stem incidents of building collapse in Lagos and Nigeria.

At a one-day advocacy programme slated for Wednesday, October 25, 2023, the associations revealed that the programme is meant to sensitize Nigerians about the menace of building collapse in Lagos and advanced ways to stop the menace.

Addressing a press conference, the Ikeja branch Chairman of the NBA, Mr Oluseyi Olawumi, revealed that several prominent Nigerians have been lined up as speakers as the one-day advocacy programme lasts.

Top on the list of eminent Nigerians is human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana, who is the keynote speaker.

Other speakers on the list that would address the subject, ‘Building Collapse and Application of Punitive Laws in Lagos State’ are Dr Olawale Banmore, Architect Gbolahan Oki, Ayuba Akere, and Dr Bamidele Onalaja among other seasoned experts.

In her remarks, the Coordinator of BCPG, Ikeja cell, Mrs Zulaikha Iyabode Bolarinwa explained that the guild was formed 15 years back when professionals, worried by the spate of building collapses in Lagos State and Nigeria, decided to come together for advocacy to stop the incidents and save lives.
