The Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Adm. Olusola Oluwagbire, has warned sea pirates to stay clear of Nigerian waterways, especially in his area of responsibility in the state.

Oluwagbire gave the warning during his maiden inspection of the base and units of the Naval Command in NNS Jubilee at Ikot Abasi Local Government Area on Thursday.

“We are coming to smoke sea pirates out of the waterways, we will get them and we will roast them,” FOC said.

He explained that he was in Akwa Ibom as part of his maiden inspection of the base and units of the naval command since his assumption of office.

Oluwagbire also said that he is on ground to get all the units to know what is happening in his command.

He urged the commander to rejig the operations of the command so that the boats are out there as it should be for effective coverage of the waterways.

The FOC urged the command to be more alert as they were always been doing.

He called on the public to give useful information to the command in order to use it to apprehend the criminal elements in the society.

“There is one aspect of security that most people don’t understand, is not only the security agency’s business but is everybody’s business.

“If you see something, share it with the security agencies, so that it can help better the society.

“We are together, we will do it and make the waterways safe and better,” Oluwagbire said.

The highlights of the visit were the inspection of Forward Operating Base, Ibaka, Mbo LGA, Proposed Naval Barracks, Essene, Ikot Abasi LGA, Nigerian Navy Military School, Ikot Ntuen, Akwa Ibom, and newly acquired Girls Model Secondary School at Awa Ubium in Onna LGA and Utaewa, an outpost station in Ikot Abasi LGA.
