Nationwide Protest: Gov Namadi Asks Nigerians To Pray For Divine Intervention

The Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi has asked Nigerians to pray for divine intervention amid economic hardship rather than resort to nationwide protest.

Governor Namadi who spoke on Monday said there are other means Nigerians could use to show their grievances aside from protest.

The Governor made this remark while speaking in a meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), in the state.

He said while citizens have the right to express their grievances and are at liberty to express them through protest under a democratic dispensation, it will not solve the problems.

He called for prayers and advised Nigerians to repent from their sins. He said Nigerians must seek forgiveness from God and call for his divine intervention.

The Governor said, “There are many ways people could express their grievances; people are at liberty to display their grievances through protest under democratic dispensation, but that isn’t the most effective way to address the problems.

“The protest alone will not provide the solutions; people should turn to God, repent, seek for forgiveness and divine intervention on the challenges.”

Also, the Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State, Tijjani Abdullahi, said the command would not allow protest planners to breach public peace in the state.

He said security agencies remain combat-ready to deal with anyone intending to breach order in the state.

“The security agencies in the state are combat-ready to deal with anyone who wants to breach public peace and order,” Abdullahi said.
