Napoli’s Coach, Conte Throws Jab At Osimhen

Newly appointed Napoli manager, Antonio Conte has seemingly taken a swipe at former striker, Victor Osimhen, implying that the Nigerian player was egoistic and selfish during his time at the club.

In an interview with Corriere dello Sport, Conte emphasized the importance of teamwork and hinted that Osimhen’s departure was necessary for the team’s success.

“The most important thing is we (the team), egoistic and selfish players must go,” Conte stated. “With the individual player, you don’t go anywhere; it’s the team that gets you to win or lose.”

Conte’s comments come after Osimhen’s departure from Napoli following a tumultuous season marred by injuries and a soured relationship with the club.

Osimhen has since joined Galatasaray on loan, while Conte has brought in Romelu Lukaku, who has already scored two goals in his first two games for the club.

Napoli is currently topping the Serie A table with three wins in four games, and Conte’s comments suggest that he believes the team is better off without Osimhen’s perceived egoistic tendencies.

However, it’s worth noting that Osimhen was a key player for Napoli during their title-winning season in 2022-2023, scoring 26 goals in 32 league games.
