MTN Replaces CEO, COO In Nigeria, Congo

MTN Group has appointed Mohammed Rufai as chief executive officer of MTN CongoBrazzaville and Ayham Moussa as chief operations officer of MTN Nigeria, effective September 1, 2024, and August 19, 2024 respectively.

The company said in a statement that they were appointed following the exit of Chief Operating Officer, Mr Hassan from the company and voluntary retirement of MTN Côte d’Ivoire’s CEO, Djibril Ouattara.

Rufai moves in the opposite direction of Moussa, who is vacating the office to take up the position of COO in Nigeria. He is an accomplished professional with over 24 years of experience in ICT and an impressive track record in the telecoms industry.

He has held various senior roles across the MTN Group, including Regional CTIO for Southeast Africa and Ghana. Also, Rufai has served on the Board of Directors of Bayobab (Nigeria) and MTN Benin.

He obtained a Bachelor of Technology degree in computer science and certifications in advanced management and general management.

He is an alumnus of Lagos Business School, Cranfield University, United Kingdom and the University of Cambridge, UK.

Also, Ayham first joined MTN in 2002, returned in 2006 after a brief hiatus and has been serving the organisation in various markets, including Syria and Guinea-Conakry.

He has held senior roles such as chief information officer, chief technical and information officer and CEO of MTN Congo-Brazzaville.
