MonkeyPox: NCDC Mandate Passengers Travelling From London To Submit Health Declaration Forms

Intending passengers travelling from London into Nigeria via Lagos and Abuja have been mandated to complete and submit an online health declaration form, which is a new requirement for entry into Nigeria aimed to curb the spread of MonkeyPox.

The new requirement dated August 11 advised all passengers to fill out and submit the form to avoid being delayed/stopped from entering Nigeria.

Following the recent outbreak of MonkeyPox (Mpox) in some parts of Africa, The Ministry of Health through Port Health Services has introduced the Health Declaration form to be completed by all arriving customers into the country via Lagos and Abuja stations.

To avoid being delayed/ stopped from entering the country, the British Airways has therefore urged all customers departing London for Lagos and Abuja stations to go online and complete/ submit the form before they board.

The Health Declaration Form is an instituted measure to prevent the spread, monitor the possible importation of infectious diseases and aid the control of disease outbreaks thereby protecting the health of all Nigerians.

According to information on the website of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, “The Nigeria Health Declaration Form must be filled out by all incoming passengers to Nigeria.

“Paper-based versions will be provided on arrival in Nigeria for passengers unable to fill the form.” Mpox, formerly monkeypox, is transmitted through close contact and causes flulike symptoms and pus-filled lesions.

Most cases are mild but it can be fatal. Mpox (monkeypox) is a viral illness caused by the monkeypox virus, a species of the genus Orthopoxvirus.

Common symptoms of mpox are a skin rash or mucosal lesions which can last two to four weeks accompanied by fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.
