Money Laundering: Court Adjourns Trail Of Mercy Chinwo’s Ex-Manager

The presiding judge of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, has adjourned further proceedings in the case involving music promoter and former manager of gospel artist ,Mercy Chinwo, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu ThankGod, popularly known as Eezee Tee, to September 26, 2025.

Sunday Telegraph reports that Eezee Tee and his company, Eezee Global Concepts Limited, are facing trial on a seven-count amended charge filed by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The charges involve allegations of foreign exchange malpractice and money laundering involving several hundred thousand dollars.

Initially arraigned before Justice Owoeye at the same court, the case was later reassigned to Justice Aneke for continuation of proceedings.

However, one of the charges alleges that the defendant, not being an authorised foreign exchange dealer approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria, negotiated a foreign currency transaction with an individual, thereby violating provisions of the Foreign Exchange Monitoring and Miscellaneous (Provisions) Act.

At Friday’s hearing, the prosecution, led by Bilkisu Buhari-Bala, presented its first witness, Mohammed Timta.

Meanwhile, defence counsel, Chikaosolu Ojukwu, SAN, informed the court that both parties were close to reaching a settlement and requested additional time to finalise discussions. He added that should the negotiations fail, the prosecution would proceed with a full trial.

Following the submissions, Justice Aneke granted the request and adjourned the case to September 26, 2025, for further hearing.
