Minimum Wage: NYSC To Increase Corps Members’ Allowance

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that monthly stipends for corps members will rise once the Federal Government implements the recently agreed-upon minimum wage.

In July, organized labor and the federal government settled on a new minimum wage of N70,000, replacing the previous N30,000.

The bill to formalize this change was passed by the National Assembly on July 23 and signed into law on July 29. Yusha’u Ahmed, Director General of NYSC, who made this known during his recent visits to orientation camps in Kebbi and Sokoto while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘B’ stream two corps members said the current ₦33,000 monthly allowance for corps members, will be adjusted following the federal government’s implementation of the new wage law.

Emphasizing the contribution of corps members to Nigeria’s socioeconomic development, Ahmed encouraged them to leverage their service year for personal development.
