Matawalle Didn’t Help Yahaya Bello Escape To Niger, Group Tells Jackson Ude

The Zamfara Youth Movement (ZYM) has warned investigative journalist Jackson Ude against attacks on the Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle.

Jackson had claimed that Matawalle facilitated the escape of former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello to the Niger Republic.

According to Ude’s report on X Bello, who is facing charges by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged looting during his tenure, has repeatedly avoided arrest and prosecution.

He added that intelligence indicated Matawalle, a close ally of Bello, mobilized eight soldiers to escort the former governor to the Niger Republic via Kebbi State.

In a statement on Monday by ZYM Convener Umar Abubakar, there was no iota of truth in the report. The group loyal to Matawalle said it would no longer tolerate anyone painting the minister in bad light.

Abubakar said: “Dr Bello Matawalle since his inception into politics was known for holding records of high moral rectitude, discipline, accountability, competence, transparency and patriotism to the nation, no matter whose ox is gored.
