Makinde Commissions 38.48km Rehabilitated Inner Roads In Ibadan

…Promises to do more in other zones

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde on Thursday inaugurated the asphaltic improvement and rehabilitation of 38. 48 kilometres of feeder roads in the Ibadan metropolis.

Governor Makinde while inaugurating the roads at Ring-road, Ibadan, said his government is determined to lay a template for coming administrations to build on and improve people’s livelihood through road interconnectivity and construction.

The Governor said the remaining 56.74km of asphaltic improvement and rehabilitation in Ibadan will be completed before December, while the second phase that will be extended to other zones of the state will commence by the end of 3rd quarter of the year 2024.

He said: “As a government, our job is to do our best with the little resources we have to keep the residents happy and attract more people to come to our state. This is the way we grow our economy. We also acknowledge that we do not have all the resources at our disposal. So, we cannot meet all our needs at the same time.

“This commissioning today will be the first of many. Our government earmarked an initial 95.58km of feeder roads for asphaltic improvement and reconstruction in 2023. This is just halfway through it and they are to be completed within 12 months.

“One road that I know I will do before I leave the state is the Iseyin- Ikere Gorge Dam. I am saying this publicly and I want our people in various zones to hold me responsible for this promise I just made.

“All the roads we have fixed are also coming with solar streetlights. From Oke Adu to Aremo to Olorunsogo, we will install street lights there”, the governor said.

Earlier in his welcome address, commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Professor Dahud Sangodoyin, said completion of 40.3% of the project, has reduced traffic congestion and travel times, which has led to increased productivity, efficiency, enhanced ease of doing business, attractive to investors and desirable place to live.

The renovated feeder roads include, 8.5km dualised Mile 110 through Ring-road to Challenge, 3.8km Iyaganku through NUJ Press Centre to Ring-road and 10.8Km dualised Bus stop/Agodi Gate through Beere-Oja’ba to Molete.

Others are 3.5Km Oke Adu through Aremo to Orita Aperin, 1.4Km Idi Rere through Popoyemoja to Oke Ado and 2.15Km Oke Ado through Imalefalafia, Ososami to Ring-road.
