LP Rejects Anambra Local Govt Elections Over Alleged Compromise

The Labour Party (LP) in Anambra State has announced the rejection of the forthcoming Local Government elections in the state, slated for September 28, 2024, saying it’s a complete fraud and violation of the law.

In a  statement issued on Saturday by the State Publicity Secretary, Theo Egbe, the party accused the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) of falsifying the list of candidates by including non-party members, specifically from the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

LP further claimed the elections were organized in violation of proper legal processes and transparency.

As part of its response, the Labour Party has taken legal action, filing a lawsuit against the state government and ANSIEC in an attempt to stop the elections.

They also called for the postponement of the polls, demanding that the integrity of the electoral process be restored before any vote takes place.

The party argued that ANSIEC has compromised its role as an independent body, alleging collusion with APGA to rig the election in favour of the ruling party.

The Anambra State government and ANSIEC are yet to respond to these accusations as of the time of filing this report.

However, the Labour Party has vowed to continue its legal battle to ensure that the elections are free from fraud and manipulation.
