The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has condemned the killing of one of its supporters, Sunusi Yahuza Mohammed, during the Local Government elections in Mangu over the weekend.
According to the party, Mohammed was allegedly shot dead in broad daylight while defending the ballot box from being taken away.
The APC’s Acting Publicity Secretary, Shittu Bamaiyi in a press statement signed and issued on Friday in Jos emphasized that the party will not tolerate violence against its supporters.
“We cannot fold our arms and watch our supporters being harassed and intimidated by anybody, no matter how highly placed,” he stated.
The APC has expressed concern that the life of a young man was lost simply because he was exercising his civic right, and some unpopular candidates wanted to win at all costs.
The party described the incident as unacceptable and vowed not to stand idly by while its supporters are harassed and intimidated.
“It is rather sad and unfortunate that a young man by name Sunusi Yahuza Mohammed was allegedly killed and one other person shot at, in a broad daylight, while trying to defend the ballot box from being taken away.
“APC is really worried that life could be taken out of a person who came to exercise his civic right, just because some unpopular candidates wanted to win elections at all costs.
“The incident at Mangu Ward one, is unacceptable, and as such the Party can not fold it’s arms and watch it’s supporters being harassed and intimidated by anybody no matter how highly placed.
“APC is therefore calling for a full investigation into the murder of Mallam Sunusi Mohammed in order to identify persons behind the inhumane act.
“The Party wants to use the opportunity to sympathise with the family of the deceased and also call on the people of the area to remain calm, as everything is being done to fish out those involved in the dastardly act.
