Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has set up a seven-man judiciary panel of inquiry to investigate the violence that erupted in parts of the state barely 24 hours after he swore in local government chairmen in the state.
Recall that protesters and arsonists stormed three council areas, leading to the death of at least three people and the burning of some sections of the council headquarters of Eleme, Emuoha and Ikwerre.
While the protesters were busy, the arsonists were at work, preventing some elected council chairmen, councillors and council staff from assessing their secretariats.
In a statement in Port Harcourt yesterday afternoon, Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, said the inauguration of the panel was scheduled for 4pm at the Government House, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday.
The statement listed Hon. Justice I.R. Minakirias as chairman of the committee, with Mrs. Felicia Nwoke, Prof. Blessing Didia; Sir Samuel Egbe and Venerable Alex Usifor, as members.
