The Director, NYSC North Central Area Office 2, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe has charged corps members serving in Benue State to leave impactful life and legacy worthy of emulation during the national service year and beyond.
She gave the charge during her address to them at the NYSC Secretariat, Makurdi during her oversight tour of States under the Zone, according to a statement issued on Friday.
She stated that the service year gives opportunity for the corps members to write their names on the sand of time.
She reiterated that corps members ought to make themselves relevant.
She said: “corps members should leave a life of impact. Let it be on record that “an impactful individual has passed by, and also be role models”.
Ogbuogebe further charged the corps members to be security conscious as well as interact very well with people.
“Don’t be a lone ranger”. Don’t feel too big that you will not relate with people”, she advised.
She further admonished the youths to be prayerful, while also imploring the corps members to be good, godly and develop lasting relationships.
“Good and lasting relationships are built during the service year,” she said.
She further encouraged the corps members to sustain the skills they started with from the camp and master them for self-employment.
Ogbuogebe told the corps members to note that they are important assets to the scheme and the nation, meant to be mentored towards being better citizens.
“I want you to know that you gave us the jobs we are doing today; don’t look down on yourselves. Follow the rules, don’t follow wrong people to circumvent the process. We give you commendation when you do well and punish you, when you do wrong,” she said.
According to the statement, the director later had an interactive session with the staff of the Benue State NYSC secretariat.
The pioneer Director, North Central Area office 2, also advised the staff to be hard working, diligent and dedicated. She added that they should imbibe professionalism in their duties, be proactive and be abreast with civil service and NYSC information and operations.
She also cautioned the staff to have zero tolerance for extortion and other vices that may bring the scheme’s image to disrepute.
She encouraged them to always appear pleasant and take good care of their health. “Don’t neglect your health”, she said.
Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mrs Veronica Garba, welcomed the Director on the visit to the state; which she described as timely and motivational to the staff.
She told Ogbuogebe that the Staff of NYSC Benue State Secretariat are very happy with her presence. She also said that the staff are very supportive and efficient in their respective responsibilities.
The coordinator pledged the readiness of the secretariat for continued partnership with the Benue State Government and other stakeholders in order to achieve the scheme’s mandate.
