A businessman, Otunba Hassan Alli, has petitioned the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo- Olu, the Acting Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, alongside other law enforcement agencies seeking immediate prosecution of an alleged land grabber, Moroof Owonla, popularly known as ‘Kaka Moroof’, over his alleged involvement in the unlawful invasion of his two property situated at No. 34, Ferguson Osagie Street, Ayobo and No. 2, Peace Street, Ayobo, Lagos State. The businessman alleged that ‘Kaka Moroof’, forcefully took over his hotel at Ayobo with fake judgement in a suit marked ID/1722/92, between Chief Arimiyau Bello Ekundayo and Taiwo Ogunbiyi & 12 others. According to Alli, the purported judgement and the survey plan relied on by ‘Kaka Moroof’ had no correlation or nexus with his lands and hotel at Ferguson Osagie Street, Ayobo, Lagos. In the petition dated July 10, 2023, Otunba Ali is requesting for the prompt prosecution of the suspected land grabber and his purported cohorts for terrorism, force entry, land grabbing, unlawful invasion and taking over, as well as threat to the lives and property of innocent landowners within Ayobo community.
Alli further alleged that the suspected land grabber in his desperate, but unsuccessful bid to forcefully steal and grab his hotel had on August 5, 2022, broken into his hotel, chased away workers in- side the 33 rooms hotel capacity almost at the completion stage and forcefully took over. The businessman equally alleged that the suspected land grabber looted his property worth N33.6 million kept in a hotel for completion of the ongoing construction work. Alli said: “Moroof Aremu Owonla (Kaka Moroof) did not only commit ille- gal actions and atrocities, but deliberate- ly impersonates himself as the Sheriff of Ikeja High Court by inscribing “Posses- sion was taken 2nd May 2008 ID/1722/92, CA/L/30/06, CA/L/16/M/04”, on his hotel at No. 34, Ferguson Osagie Street, Ayobo, Lagos State, on August 5, 2022.
“Upon my application for confirmation from the High Court, Ikeja, Sheriff section, it was discovered upon search by the court that Suit no: ID/1722/92 was not found on their record for execution on the court’s system. “I am fortified with a copy of Lagos State Judiciary’s reply to my letter of request dated November 7, 2022, with Ref No: LAS/312455/Vol XXII/136. “Moroof in his usual desperate bid to forcefully take over my hotel and dispos- sess me of my hotel, wrote a frivolous petition to Force C.I.D Annex, Alagbon, Lagos State, and the case was assigned to General Investigation Section, (GI) headed by DCP Shiek Danko who with his team investigated the case and ar- rested six thugs deployed to my hotel by Moroof including one of his ally, Ganiyu Aminu. “They were arraigned before Court 1, Yaba on December 8, 2022, vide Charge No: A/80/22.
Meanwhile, the suspected land grabber has a pending case against him be- fore Justice A. M Oluyemi of the High Court of Lagos State, Ikeja, in suit no: ID/1081/12, wherein he is facing con- tempt and committal proceedings. In the suit, ‘Kaka Moroof’ is said to have forcefully entered and demolished a property beside Ayobo Police Station covered by a court judgement delivered by Justice Oluyemi on November 18, 2018. A warrant of arrest has since been issued against ‘Kaka Moroof’ and he had continued to evade the service of Form 48, despite repeated calls put across to him by the Sheriff of the Ikeja High Court. The case has been adjourned to Sep- tember 20, 2023.
