Lalong lauds upgrade of college to varsity

The Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong has expressed delight over the upgrading of the Federal College of Education, Pankshin to a University of Education following the signing into law of the bill by President Muhammadu Buhari. According to the governor, the bill would lead to the emergence of another tertiary institution in the state.

The bill, which was passed by the National Assembly and sent to the President for assent into law, provided for the upgrading of the Federal College of Education in Pankshin into a university of education.

This is cheering news for the government and people of Plateau State, who last year, lauded the establishment of two private universities and a federal polytechnic after their approvals by the Federal Government.

While reacting to the assent of the bill for the Federal University of Education, Pankshin, Gover-nor Lalong in a statement issued and signed by the Director of Press of the Governor, Dr. Makut Simon Macham expressed gratitude to President Buhari for his passion for the progress and development of the state.

Lalong, who specifically thanked the sponsor of the Bill at the National Assembly, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, representing Pankshin/ Kanam/Kanke Federal Constituency for his doggedness in lobbying his colleagues and pursuing the bill to a logical conclusion, also praised the federal legislators from the state, as well as the leadership of the National Assembly, particularly the Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan; the Speaker of House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Idris Wase, and all legislators for the roles played in ensuring that the law was passed.

The governor, however, said that the development had further validated the position of Plateau State and a Centre of Learning in the North Central geo-political zone of the federation, and indeed the nation at large.
