Lagos Will Lose $21bn To Traffic By 2030 If Proper Measures Is Not Taken – Musa

Global Transportation Policy Training Academy (GTP) has said that Lagos State would be losing about $21 billion monthly in 2030 due to traffic in the state if proper measures is not taken.

He said Lagos is growing between
seven and eight per cent annually and its needs a traffic system that is effective and efficient.

Dr Segun Musa made this known over the weekend while declaring opened a one day workshop for train the trainers for the personnels of the Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority in Lagos.

Dr Musa also said that they are going to hold a mega rally on traffic management with the Police, LASTMA, FRSC and other security agencies in the State before the end of 2024.

The theme of the training: “Improving Traffic Management: Leveraging on Emotional Intelligence Skills.” was organised by GTP in collaboration with the Police, FRSC and LASTMA.

Musa said that the mega rally on traffic management would take place after the series of trainings currently going on for some government agencies on traffic management and emotional intelligence skills.

He noted that worried by the heavy traffic in Lagos State, GTP was organising the free trainings for the uniform personnel with a view to unite them in carrying out their duties.

“We appreciate what you have been doing, we want you police, LASTMA and FRSC to do more. We want all of you to align with the best practices in traffic management.

“We don’t want to know the winner, we want synergy; authorities may differ, but the work is for one Nigeria. We are all colleagues. We are working for same aims and objectives.

“Anywhere you see a LASTMA official, he is representing the police, anywhere you see FRSC, he is representing LASTMA. The most important thing is that the job is well done,” he said

Musa pointed out that after the training, the public would begin to see the changes, the brand new FRSC, LASTMA and police in traffic management.

“Once we are through with Lagos State, we are moving to Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt. We want to ensure that the training goes round the country,” he further said.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Oki, represented by Mr Jubril Oshodi, who commended the GTP for the training, noting that such exercise will go a long way to unite the agencies for a better job.

Oki advised all agencies responsible for traffic management never to see themselves as revivals, rather, partner in different uniforms working towards one goal.

For the FRSC Sector Commander in Lagos State, Mr. Mr Patrick Davou, represented by Deputy Corps Commander, Mr Usman Emmanuel, said only united agencies will bring about best traffic management in Lagos and Nigeria in general.

He commended GTP for the training, assuring the group of the command’s commitment to a better traffic management in Lagos State.
