Lagos: Police Arrest Dispatch Rider For Allegedly Stealing N1.7m Iphones

The Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a despatch rider, named, Matthew Odah, 27, for allegedly selling three iPhones valued at N1.7 million that were entrusted to him for delivery.

On August 23, 2023, Odah, while working as a dispatch rider, collected one iPhone 14 ProMax (128 GB) and two iPhone 11 (128 and 68 GB) intended for delivery to a customer in Lekki area of Lagos State .

However, after collecting the consignment, Odah disappeared, switched off his phone, and went into hiding. A thorough and discreet investigation conducted by the RRS eventually led to Odah’s arrest at Lemon Bus Stop, Alpha Beach, Lagos. Upon his arrest, Odah confessed to selling the three iPhones for N300,000.

According to the police, the buyers were also arrested, and one of the iPhones was recovered. The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court after the conclusion of investigations. This incident serves as a reminder to individuals to exercise caution when entrusting valuable items to delivery services and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities, the police said.
