As part of its commitment to improving the parking culture in the State, the Lagos State Parking Authority is set to launch a new parking policy for motorists in some parts of the metropolis.
The body is also ready to commence the enforcement of the rules.
According to the agency’s General Manager, Mrs Adebisi Adelabu, the new parking regulations recently approved by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, are not solely for revenue generation purposes, but will also create employment opportunities as part of dividends of governance to Lagosians.
She also said that the state government has given a nod to the commencement of a new parking policy in Ikeja and Victoria Island central business districts; to be followed by Ikoyi, Lekki, and Surulere axis.
Offering brief details of the new parking policy, the LPA GM stated that streets in identified areas are rated into commercial and non-commercial; street and on-street categories.
“You will find out that on some streets you are longer able to Park at all, while on some you can park between the off-peak period of 7 pm to 5 am, and on some streets, you can park throughout the day.
While urging those who want to go into parking activities, whether for commercial or non-commercial purposes to approach the LPA for proper documentation, the GM revealed that signs and other apparatus are being put in place to ease problems associated with arbitrary parking in the state.
“And of course for those that want parking commercially and non-commercial, maybe an event centre, hotel, what we are saying is you need to come and register with us.
“We need to put you in the database and then you need to follow the parking policy that the state has created”, Adebisi said in an agency-sponsored video.
Also, while averring that the Agency needs the support of members of the public to succeed in its mandate, LPA announced that it would be embarking on enforcement of parking codes in selected areas.
“Our goal is to create a more sustainable, well-coordinated, and efficient parking system that benefits all residents in the State. Additionally, we are enforcing regulations to prevent illegal parking and ensure a safe and secure environment.
“We believe that with collective efforts and support of residents, we can transform the parking culture of Lagos State, making our city a better place for everyone”, a statement on the LPA’s social media handle concluded.
