The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State on Wednesday took to the streets to protest the remand of one of its chieftains, Tajudeen Sulu-Oloje.
New Telegraph reports that Sulu-Oloje was remanded by a magistrate’s court in Ilorin.
The court, citing lack of jurisdiction, ordered his detention at a federal correctional facility and adjourned the case until October 21, 2024.
Sulu-Oloje was previously charged, granted bail, and released on the eve of the recently concluded Local Government elections.

However, he was re-arraigned on the same charges, sparking outrage among PDP members.
Led by state Chairman, Babatunde Mohammed, the protesters hit the street with different placards.
Some of the inscriptions on the placard read, “Kwara PDP will not accept this,” “IGP should come to our rescue,” and “Taju Sulu-Oloje is not a criminal.”
The members of the PDP accused authorities of attempting to stifle opposition voices.
They claimed that the renewed charges were politically motivated, especially in light of the local government elections.
Speaking to journalists after the court session, Mohammed condemned the actions against Sulu-Oloje.
He noted that the complainants had withdrawn their petitions, signaling their willingness to resolve the matter peacefully.
Mohammed accused the state’s Commissioner of Police of targeting Sulu-Oloje solely because of his affiliation with the PDP.
The protest continued as PDP members marched to the police headquarters.
They urged the police to remain neutral and refrain from being used as tools of political intimidation.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful conduct while rejecting any attempts to harass its members.
