The Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governor’s Forum, AbdulRasaq AbdulRahman, at the weekend unveiled the llorin SmartCity and City Master Plan.
The carnival-like event came up at the Banquet Hall, opposite Kwara State Government House where the arrival of the Governor, AbdulRasaq AbdulRahman and his wife, Ambassador Olufolake AbdulRasaq heralded the unveiling of the entrepreneurship hub.
The state Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development Dr Segun Ogunsola in a press statement on Sunday made available to New Telegraph in Ado-Ekiti said that the llorin SmartCity is a proposed smartcity project in the State.
“The project aims to transform llorin into a modern, sustainable, and technologically advanced city, with a focus on innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth.
“The project includes plans for, a smart transportation system, a central business district, a technology park, a green energy system, a smart security system, a digital governance platform, a smart healthcare system and a smart education system
“The goal is to make Ilorin a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth in West Africa, and to improve the quality of life for its citizens.
“To make the llorin SmartCity project a reality, the Kwara State Government has acquired 20,065 hectares of land in both llorin East and in South Local Government Areas of Kwara State, for the purpose of citing the New llorin SmartCity Estate. As proposed, the SmartCity would accommodate Modern Schools, Hospitals, Markets, Police Stations, Fire Services, Stadia and other social amenities.
“It would also House 1000 Federal Renewed Hope housing estates as well as accommodate phase two of the Industrial Park and a host of other infrastructures. It is purposely designed to achieve a 15% green space provisioning with 50 Square meters of green space per individual, in line with the World Health Organisation (WHO)’s ideal urban green space recommendation.
” It is a city that would be powered by renewable energy, intelligent transportation network and efficient waste management, as well as enhancing opportunities for all residents and stakeholders.”
“On the roll call of honor at the epoch-making event were, Development partners, Emirs, traditional rulers, Distinguished Senators Sadiq Suleiman Umar, Lola Ashiru, Saliu Mustapha, the Turaki of llorin, Deputy governor opinion leaders, religious leaders, political leaders, Heads of security agencies, Speaker House of Assembly, House of Assembly members, Judges, Hon. Commissioners, Abdulquawiy Olododo, Yusuf Damilola, Hauwa Nuru, Hajia Moddibo Kawu and other commissioners, Vice Chancellor, University of llorin, scholars, Surveyor of the Federation, House of Representatives members, MHR Muktar Tolani Shagaya, Olatunji Olawoye Ajuloopin, Yinka Aluko, and Director of agencies and government parastatals.”
The city according to the statement is designed to host 540,000 residents, offering best-in-class live, work and play facilities.
“It is also designed to match contemporary modern green cities like New Delhi and Washington DC and comprises a business district, administrative and industrial parks, a health care park, entertainment resorts and parks, residential districts, commercial districts and a host of green parks and gardens.
“Key services within the city will include a train service, a 50MW solar power park and a 150MW substation with a direct power line from the Jebba Dam.”, the statement said.
