Kidnapped Makinde’s Ally, Akika Regains Freedom – Oyo Police

Six days after he was kidnapped in his Olorunda Aba, Ibadan residence by unknown gunmen, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), Chief Benedict Akika, has regained his freedom.

The friend and supporter of the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, was released on Wednesday night and was immediately taken to a medical facility for assessment and treatment.

At the Idi Ape area of Olorunda Abaa in the Lagelu Local Government Area where he was abducted by gunmen, a person was reported to have been shot dead before Akika was whisked away by the kidnappers

It was however not known whether ransom was paid or not before his release.

The members and loyalists of Omituntun Benedict Foundation (OBF) which Akika founded, had engaged in interdenominational religious worships praying for his release.

Giving official confirmation to the report, the image maker of the Oyo state Police Command, SP Adewole Osifeso, wrote thus: “The victim who regained his freedom late evening on Wednesday, 11/09/2024 is currently undergoing medical intervention prior to his final reunion with his loved ones.

“Efforts are currently in top gear to apprehend the criminal network responsible for the reprehensible act”, he said.
